Alesis airFX Now Shipping

SANTA MONICA, CALIF..-Alesis announces that airFX(tm) is now shipping. Announced earlier this fall, airFX is an innovative musical device that processes incoming audio or generates sound effects in reaction to movement. airFX features 50 quality-preset programs that modify any audio signal from CDs and vinyl to live performance in real time. While the performance-oriented nature and high-quality effects of the product appeal to DJs, remix engineers and musicians, airFX is simple enough to be enjoyed by anyone who wants to make their own music.

airFX is the first product from Alesis to incorporate patent-pending Axyz (pronounced ax-is) technology. Developed by co-founder and CEO of Alesis, Keith Barr, Axyz technology consists of an infrared beam that can be manipulated in three dimensions, along the X, Y and Z axes.  Using triangulation, up to five different parameters can be controlled in each preset program.

Designed to draw more people into the world of making music, airFX is easy to operate because "playing" it is largely based on human intuition. According to Barr, "The exciting thing about airFX is that anyone can play it-from the avid music buff who has never touched or played an instrument to the club DJ who's looking for a new sound to set him apart.  Virtually anyone who

wants to be part of the musical process now has the power to make music themselves and they'll find out how truly fun it is. Kids can simply hook it up to a stereo in their bedrooms, wave their hands and they've made new music. airFX makes the process seem almost magical."airFX eliminates the learning curve associated with playing a traditional instrument or learning a piece of audio gear and provides immediate gratification. The "third eye" consists of a single knob, which is used to select, engage, by-pass, freeze, and release a given effect, and an LED that indicates the current program.  'Playing' airFX involves pressing the knob to engage the effect and then moving a hand through the invisible infrared sphere to alter the incoming audio signal.

The 50 preset programs include effects like panning, flanging, pitch shifting, and resonance filtering. airFX offers a host of other esoteric digital signal processing effects that include programs like Vinylizer(tm),  a scratchy vinyl simulator, and a scratching effect that emulates the sound of "rocking" a vinyl record as it plays on a turntable. airFX also features real Sub-harmonic

synthesis (which creates low frequency harmonics for very low bass sounds), vocoding, synthesizer and percussion/effect sounds. airFX program names include: Haunted Landscape, Gender Bender, Decimator, SunSpot, Tokyo Phase, Percolator, Overdrive, Psychofase, Ghost Flange, Phasors on Stun, Pitch Transporter, Snake Bite and Bow Wow.

One of the first Alesis products to feature the company's new industrial design, the unit features stereo RCA inputs and outputs, a frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz, 24-bit converters and ships with a 9-volt DC external power supply.

Alesis AirSynth Joins Axyz Product LineX

SANTA MONICA, CALIF.-Alesis Studio Electronics introduces airSynth(tm)- the latest addition to Alesis' unique line of motion-sensitive sound devices.  A follow-up to the popular Alesis airFX, the Alesis airSynth is scheduled to ship in the spring of this year with a list price of $249.

AirSynth is Alesis' second innovative product to incorporate Alesis Semiconductor's revolutionary new patent-pending Axyz(tm) (pronounced ax-is) technology.  A table-top product, airSynth produces dramatic synthesized sounds and sound effects when the user passes his hand over the invisible 3D sphere above the product.  Infrared Axyz technology allows the user to control up to five sound variables simultaneously by moving his hand left to right, forward and backward, or up and down over the product, making airSynth very easy and intuitive to use.  The dramatic soundset and unique user interface make airSynth ideal for use in live performances, DJ applications, music and post production, and on-air broadcast applications.

While airSynth employs the same technology and simple user interface that made the airFX an instant hit, it comes with its own unique twist.  Unlike the effects-processing airFX, the new Alesis airSynth is a true sound generating product that features a broad range of sound effects and synthesized noises providing an altogether different and complimentary range of options.

The unique airSynth sound-set includes 50 staccato, percussive, legato continuous pads, drum sounds and sounds that emulate things in nature.  The simple user "third eye" consists of a single knob, which is used to select, engage, bypass, freeze and release a given sound, and an LED that indicates the current program.  "Playing" airSynth involves pressing the knob to engage the effect and then moving a hand through the invisible infrared sphere to create sounds.

Incorporating the same futuristic design as airFX, airSynth can be integrated with airFX in a singular system via stereo RCA inputs and outputs without using an external mixer. airSynth features a frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz, 24-bit converters and ships with a 9-volt DC external power supply.  A threaded socked on the base of the unit allows users to mount the airSynth on a microphone stand for ease-of-use in club and studio applications.

"AirSynth and the recently introduced airFX are some of the first releases to utilize our new technology, which allows us to bring exciting break-out products to the market," states Jim Mack, Alesis Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  "Alesis is redefining the way we create music.  These products make it easy and fun for anyone to participate in music-making."

Alesis Introduces Ineko

SANTA MONICA, CALIF.-Alesis announces the introduction of Ineko(tm)-an ingenious, compact, desktop stereo effects processor-at Winter NAMM. With its metallic gun-gray, industrial design and over the top sounds, Ineko redefines effects processing by providing top-quality, user-friendly, real-time effects at an unbeatable price. Scheduled for release later this winter, Ineko lists at $199.

Designed for music recording, DJ and dance applications, as well as recording and live performance, the new Alesis Ineko gives the user the power to control real-time effects via a simple intuitive user interface. The uncomplicated faceplate sports a 6 x 8 LED grid/program display which shows the 48 high-quality reverbs, delays, filters and their parameters. Three dedicated knobs control effects parameters, alleviating the need for confusing displays, menus and "soft" keys. The large knobs provide dedicated real-time control over key functions, making Ineko ideal for use in DJ applications, where effects are part of the performance. A bypass button gives users the ability to engage or disengage signal effects during use.

While Ineko offers top quality reverb and delay programs, it also offers an arsenal of unique effects, from sub-harmonic synthesizer, fuzz, vibrowobbel and formant-filter, to frequency-shifter, band-limiter, decimator, vocoder and a range of more traditional effects such as chorus, vibrato, flanger and phasers.  Effects are conveniently grouped by category.

Product Marketing Manager Randy Neiman relates, "While the smaller self-contained 'porta-studio' type products continue to be popular among musicians, the effects typically found in those boxes are easily outgrown because they don't offer much in the way of versatility or imagination. We realize there are many musicians out there who just want interesting, signature effects-right now-and they don't have the time or inclination to delve into the technical and often tedious aspects of signal processing. Ineko gives musicians what they really want: immediate, one-of-a-kind effects that will make their music better."

The competitively priced Ineko also features 24-bit converters, 1/4" stereo inputs and outputs, trim control and comes equipped with an Alesis P-3 power supply.

Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jim Mack says, "We strive to bring products to market that not only offer significant technological advances but also make the musical process more accessible to everyone. Ineko is fast, easy and fun, so our customers can spend more time creating and less time learning technology."
