Pioneer Releases CMX-3000

Pioneer has drawn on their vast knowledge of the digital market to produce the next generation twin CD player, the CMX-3000. Stylishly designed - with rubberized buttons and a black carbon finish - the CMX-3000 boasts an unbelievable feature set.

Designed to exceed the expectations of the DJ, the CMX-3000 incorporates groundbreaking features only found on Pioneer's recently launched CDJ-1000, such as Wave Display, Onboard Memory, Hot Cues, and New Pitch Bend buttons. It also possesses a high-quality Scratch Mode, which allows scratching, scratch cue and backspin.

It achieves a staggering price versus performance ratio, extending the company's legacy of high-premium, award-winning Pro DJ products, by bringing the twin CD player platform not only within the scope of the mobile DJ, but also small clubs, music bars, and serious bedroom DJ's.

The Wave Display, patented to Pioneer, is a visual mapping of the landscape of each track. This is graphically represented in the display panel, showing the highs and lows of the track in the WAVE, and thereby guaranteeing accurate cueing on the CD.

A further creative highlight of the CMX-3000 is the Hot Cue/Loop function, which memorizes up to either three cue or loop points per CD. These can be recalled by hitting any of the three buttons, great for remixing or overdubbing. All Cue and Loops can be BPM synced.

Additionally, a rescue button is at hand, with the world's first Emergency Loop feature, which sets a four beat seamless loop, an indispensable feature if a track is about to end and the DJ has failed to cue to the next track.

The presence of Pitch bend and rubberized buttons, in particular, are a direct response to consumer feedback, and show the degree to which Pioneer has been prepared to listen and respond to the marketplace. In addition, Pioneer’s legendary Master Tempo feature offers a new WIDE (±100%) range.

With their new CMX template, Pioneer has also re-iterated industry issues of durability head on. Commencing with the installation-specific CMX-5000, they have broken free from the limitations of CD tray transports favored by competitive brands. Pioneer purposely utilizes a slot-loading design, which not only makes changing CD's quicker and easier, but more importantly, is less susceptible to damage and the transfer of dirt and dust onto the laser reader.

Pioneer's build, quality and reliability is equally established. The CMX-3000 has been constructed to withstand the most arduous and hazardous club and workplace environments with the added protection of a 15-second shockproof memory.

The CMX-3000 will be available in stores late November 2001.

Crown Unveils XLS Series

ELKHART, Indiana - September 2001 -- Crown Audio has recently announced the launch of its new XLS Series, a cost-effective line of amplifiers engineered with hard-working mobile DJs and musicians in mind.

The XLS 202, 402 and 602 all combine first-class reliability with a number of significant features. A selectable high-pass filter (30Hz/15Hz/Off) on each channel enables the amplifier to work more efficiently when not being used with full-range cabinets or subwoofers, while a pair of linear optocoupler clip limiters helps protect loudspeakers from being overdriven.

Housed in rugged, all-steel 3U chassis, the three XLS models employ an efficient forced air fan to prevent excessive thermal buildup. Front panels sport dual, precision detented level controls, a power switch and four LEDs, which indicate clip for each channel, power and fault conditions. Rear panel connections include two electronically balanced XLR inputs and touch-proof binding post outputs.

"XLS Series amplifiers are great for DJs and bands that need a rugged and dependable workhorse," says Bob Lichty, Crown Audio music industry marketing director. "Despite their extremely economical price tags, these amplifiers don't cut any corners with regard to features or performance."

Like all of Crown's amplifiers, XLS products are backed by the manufacturer's industry-exclusive Three-year, No-fault, Fully Transferable Warranty.

Power ratings (per channel) and suggested US retail pricing on the Crown XLS Series amplifiers are as follows:

  • · XLS 202:  250W / 2 Ohms; 200W / 4 Ohms; 145W / 8 Ohms; $529

  • · XLS 402:  570W / 2 Ohms; 400W / 4 Ohms; 260W / 8 Ohms; $629

  • · XLS 602:  840W / 2 Ohms; 600W / 4 Ohms; 370W / 8 Ohms; $829

Crown Audio, a Harman International company, manufactures amplifiers, microphones and systems control products for professional audio markets worldwide, with corporate headquarters located in Elkhart, Indiana, USA.
